2018 is the 40th anniversary of the Dubuque Area Writers Guild Anthology
This year is the 40th anniversary of the DAWG anthology and we are completing our compilation in collaboration with another great organization, the Dubuque Facing Project. The Dubuque Facing Project is a non-profit organization that “connects people through stories to strengthen communities. Their model guides communities as they enlist a team of writers to be paired one-on-one with citizens who are facing life circumstances that deserve to be shared to better educate the broader community. The pairs meet, get to know each other and share stories of triumph and tragedy, of loneliness and community, of hate and happiness, of deep depression and lofty goals.”
The Dubuque Facing Project is focused on Facing Diversity and this year we are helping to support the creation of an anthology centered on the stories of Dubuque’s LBTQIA+ community. We will launch this book as the kick off to DubuqueFest and have a reception at the Dubuque Museum of Art, May 18th from 6-8 pm where we will have selected submissions from the Facing Diversity compilation share their stories. Food and refreshments will be served. This event is free to the public. Books will be available at the reception and are free to the public.

Bluff Strokes is a competition amongst plein air (in the open air) artists, who will come paint Dubuque for the week of October 8-14, 2018. We will award approximately $10,000 in prize money. Each artist has their favorite scenes to paint: landscapes in the rolling hills, historic downtown buildings, river scenes or the Arboretum. The artists who came in 2016 were blown away by the variety that Dubuque offers. Come see them paint and then view (and purchase) their artwork on Friday, Oct 12 (6-9pm) at our Patron Preview Party and the Public Sale on Saturday, Oct 13 (9am-7pm).
